The Orgone Biophysical Research Lab (OBRL) near Ashland, Oregon, USA, will be hosting a 2-day Conference on New Research in Orgonomy in Summer 2009. New research findings on the natural scientific and social aspects of Orgonomy -- the science of life-energy functions in nature, as developed by the late Dr. Wilhelm Reich in the first half of the 20th Century -- will be presented and discussed by diverse research professionals. The first day of the Conference also will cover some of the basics on Wilhlem Reich's Discoveries, for those who know less about the subject or who want a refresher. The event will take place on the weekend of 1-2 August 2009 at the OBRL Greensprings Center, located in the high-altitude forested region east of Ashland, Oregon.
Wilhelm Reich's discoveries remain unique and of great importance on a variety of contemporary social, health-medical, and scientific issues. Whether one speaks about the "mind-body problem", the "archaea" or "nanobacterium" of contemporary microbiology, the "Chi" or "subtle energy" of modern parapsychology, or the "dark matter wind" of astrophysics, Reich's discoveries were 100 years ahead of his own contemporaries, and have predicted the specific findings and directions of modern mainstream science as well. Reich's clinical work within mainstream psychoanalysis in the 1920s resulted in clarification on the role of emotional-sexual stasis and repression in the creation of neurotic symptoms and general unhappiness. He developed a new therapeutic approach, for emotion-release, which helped people rid themselves of such symptoms more efficiently and effectively than conventional therapies, and which also improved their capacities for work, social functioning, love and sexual gratification. A whole raft of newer "body-oriented psychotherapy" methods have developed out of Reich's early discoveries, and he is considered the "father" of such offshoots, even if most of them make serious compromises with his original methodology. His sex-economic discoveries identified the roles of early-childhood traumas, and of sex-repression, in the genesis of individual or social violence, and of the clouded social irrationalism which leads to aggressive wars and scapegoating. His discovery of bioelectrical and later life-energetic parameters to human emotion, neurological pulsation, and sexual discharge are still a light-year ahead of modern discussions on the same issues. His research findings on bionous disintegration of tissues, under conditions of emotional-neurological contraction, and loss of life-energy charge within the tissues, predicted the later re-discovery of a small part of this process by classical medicine, in the biochemical terminology of "apoptosis" and "immune-system depletion". The powerful "electrostatic/magnetic" radiation Reich discovered from certain mineral bion cultures led straight-away to objective discovery of a previously unknown life-energy radiation, the orgone energy, and to the invention of the orgone energy accumulator. The orgone accumulator, in turn, could rebuild energy-charge in the tissues of organisms, eliminating many disease symptoms, and showing promise for agricultural applications. Reich's later findings of the atmospheric orgone energy led to further breakthroughs, related to thermodynamics, electrical-charge density in the atmosphere, a functional identity with the older "cosmological ether" theory, and eventually to a new method -- Cosmic Orgone Engineering, or "cloudbusting" -- for ending droughts and greening deserts. He harnessed the orgone energy to turn a small motor, and argued this was probably the source of power for the mysterious "ufo".
Denounced and ridiculed in the popular press by the then-developing "skeptic movement", a phoney "investigation" and legal prosecution was launched by the US Food and Drug Administration against his work. Reich's books were eventually "banned and burned" by the unprecedented rulings of a blinded and arrogant US Court, and Reich himself died in prison, in a legal case of much greater significance to American freedoms than the better-known "Scopes Monkey Trial". While Reich's name and work were smashed down in those years, over time there has been a return of interest in them, though not always with credit being given to him. For example, one can read book after book today making self-important claims about "life energy" or "the force" which provide only 10% of the scientific documentation and empirical details about the phenomenon as Wilhelm Reich provided back in the 1950s. Out of some strange fear or hostility, the modern authors often refuse to even mention his name, or give one citation to his work priority. The shameful suppression of Reich's authentic ideas, but with public ridicule and severe distortions of his words and findings, thereby continues today. However, the fact is, all of Reich's claims and discoveries were founded upon empirical and objective scientific methods, his theories being tested by experiment. Since his death, Reich's findings have been rigorously tested scientifically, by various professional PhD scientists, medical doctors and independent scholars from around the world, with published results in various research journals and books. Clinics in the Americas and Europe today openly use the orgone energy accumulator for immune-system boosting and treatment of symptoms of various severe illness. His much-distorted and ridiculed cloudbusting methods have been applied for drought-abatement and desert-greening, in many world regions. His orgone bio-physics has been tested in double-blind controlled experiments in major universities. Unfortunately, much of this verification work also remains nearly unknown, or is distorted and ridiculed by the same "skeptic" movement, which today is highly organized and acts much like the "court jesters" of old, to render Wilhelm Reich and his discoveries into a subject of ridicule and contempt.
One of the goals of the New Research in Orgonomy series is to educate the general public and professionals with facts about this incredible body of research and discovery, and to correct the many public distortions and misrepresentations of Reich's science. Another is to provide professionals with a safe-haven meeting ground where their own scientific work related to Reich's orgonomy can be openly presented, without risk of typical attack or ridicule, but where the principles of good scientific method and open critique are adhered to. The general public is also invited to these events, though there is a policy for the rigorous exclusion of known trouble-makers. These are meetings of historical importance. Persons of serious mind who seek answers to pressing questions of social or scientific merit, be they student (of any age) or professional, are invited to attend.
These Conferences are held every two years. The last one was held in summer 2007 in Chipping, Lancashire, UK. Before that, in summer 2005 the Conference was held at the OBRL Greensprings Center. The Conference Abstracts from those meetings are available on-line as downloadable PDFs, here:

This Conference on New Research in Orgonomy will be open to professionals, students and the general public. In addition to the weekend Conference, there will also be an informal Friday evening Open House and Social for everyone who plans to attend or speak, as well as for the local Ashland community. Light refreshments will be provided. The OBRL Observatory and Orgone Energy Darkroom may also be opened for viewing. See the note on "Special Events", below.
The OBRL Conference will be held outdoors in our beautiful under-the-trees ampitheatre, with large and comfortable lean-back chairs. Wild deer and chipmunks will also stop by for the occasional investigation. This mountain-top location, at 4150-foot elevation, is typically warm or coolish days and cool or chilly nights, so plan accordingly. The days are typically cloud-free, this being the dry-season, and so rains are not anticipated. The sky is typically a deep brilliant orgone-blue, stunning in fact.

SPECIAL CONFERENCE EVENTS
Friday Evening Open House and Social: OBRL will be open for an informal social chat and get-together from around 6 PM to 9 PM the Friday before the Conference (July 31st). You are welcome to come and meet others attending or speaking, and who arrive early. Coffee-tea service with light snacks will be provided.
Weekend Night Events: For Saturday and Sunday nights, and weather permitting, we may open the OBRL Rooftop Observatory for telescopic observation for Conference guests. The OBRL Orgone Energy Darkroom may also be open for having a look and sitting.
Demonstrations of Apparatus: On the first day of the Conference, during breaks and off-periods, a few laboratory demonstrations will be presented. The OBRL laboratory will be opened up to allow viewing of blue-glowing sand-bions in the microscope. Also the Orgone Energy Darkroom will be opened up, allowing people to sit inside, to feel the orgone radiation effects, which are particularly strong at this high-altitude location. Weather permitting, the flowing horizontal motion of the orgone energy in the atmosphere may also be possible using our large "battleship binoculars". Also a demonstration of the Experimental Life-Energy Meter will be made. Time permitting, we will try to do as many of these demonstrations as possible, so that even for "old time hands" to orgonomy, the events will be refreshing and interesting.
Optional Monday Field Trip to Crater Lake: One of the favorite field-trips in the area is the drive and visit to nearby Crater Lake National Park. We depart around 9 AM. It takes about 2 hours to drive to the lake, through the beautiful Oregon mountains and back-country forests, with a few refreshing stops. Once there, we take some time to visit the main overlooks and park gift-shops, have lunch, and then take the Rim Drive around the lake, which typically has the bluest waters in the world! It will "knock your eyes out"! (not literally) We then return home, arriving back at the OBRL Center usually around 7 PM. This event is a fully optional and privately-organized thing, only possible by volunteer car-pooling of those who have attended the Conference and who have a car and want to make the trip themselves, taking others with them as their guests. So we cannot 100% guarantee this will happen, but so far every year we have managed to do it, without leaving anyone behind. More information will be available on Sunday afternoon during the Conference.
OBRL Bookstore: All of the books and instruments offered through the OBRL catalog will be available for direct examination and purchase during the off-times of this Conference. We suggest to review the offerings through the on-line catalog, and make up your list in advance. Or, you can make up a list of what you want, place your order on-line, pay for the items when you pick them up during the conference and save 100% on the shipping charges. See here:
